I am not able to open or edit some of my MPEG files with Video Edit Magic. What could be the problem?

There are two types of MPEG files, MPEG - I and MPEG - II. Video Edit Magic completely supports editing MPEG - I files. MPEG - II files can be edited with Video Edit Magic only when:

1) An appropriate MPEG video decoder is installed.
2) The MPEG decoder is correctly configured.
3) The MPEG decoder has features capable of editing Media Files.

Incorrect decoder or configuration can result in unexpected results. If you are facing problems with editing MPEG files you can:

Download and Install a free MPEG 2 decoder from the following link:
https://www.deskshare.com/download/mpeg2decoder.exe

However if you already have MPEG hardware or software installed and working on your system, it is very likely that they might have installed their own set of MPEG Video Decoders. Installing Elecard MPEG Video Decoder in this case may affect your existing setup.

You can edit your MPEG files by converting them first to AVI. To convert:
1. On the Tools menu, Click on Media Converter.
2. Click on Next, and then specify the Files to Convert and Destination Folder.
3. Click on Next, and then choose the appropriate Video and Audio compressors.
4. Click on Next, to start converting.

I'm having the same problem.

When I try using the Media Convertor, I get "The specifed source file name-of-file.mpg cannot be converted".
I'm able to view the mpg file using Windows Media Player 10, ATI's File Player 8.8 etc.
It is an mpg-2 file created by recording a TV show using ATI's All-In-Wonder card.

Thanks.
