This is my first post and I did not see anything on this question on the site so far.

I have recorded some TV shows on my laptop using MCE. I would like to copy them to a DVD to get some space back.

What is the extension for MCE files and what would I change it to so it can copy the file to a cd or dvd with an extension that would run on my regular DVD player?

Does Digital Media Converter do this?

Thanks

MCE or Media Center Edition creates video and audio recordings in DVR-MS format (extension is ".DVR-MS").

If you try changing the DVR-MS extension, it will not play. You can only play DVR-MS files on Windows Media Center Edition and Windows XP with Service Pack 2 computers.

To play DVR-MS files on a standard DVD player, you need to convert it to the MPEG 2 format. Then you can use any DVD burning software to create the DVD. Digital Media Converter supports converting DVR-MS files to many different media formats (such as WMV, AVI, MPEG 2, MOV etc.)
