Smart Email Verifier 3.51

Understanding Options

To change Smart Email Verifier options, click the Tools menu and Options.

General

Work Flow Screens

You can check the Show Quick Start and Show Verification Summary boxes if you want these windows to appear.

Verification Level

Depending on what level of verification you want, you can choose either the Syntax + Domain or Syntax + Domain + SMTP option.  If you have chosen the Syntax + Domain + SMTP option, you can can Enable Forced Verification.  If forced verification is turned on, your computer will connect to the mail server for each e-mail address in the E-Mail List, and pretend to have mail to deliver.  This will confirm whether a mailbox for that account exists, but if you do this you risk having your system "blacklisted" as a possible source of e-mail spam.  If you are blacklisted, you may not be able to verify or send e-mail to certain addresses from that system.

Rules

Use the Rules tab to specify Verification Rules.  Each rule tells Smart Email Verifier how to handle a certain set of addresses, and overrides the "standard" behavior of the program.  For instance, if you create a rule that says "Mark *.edu as invalid", all addresses issued by educational institutions will be invalid, even if they would pass the three normal tests.

DNS

Smart Email Verifier automatically detects your Domain Name Service (DNS) Server Settings.  DNS is used by Smart Email Verifier to find the appropriate SMTP (mail) server for each address.  You can configure a different set of DNS servers than the ones used by Windows.  DNS server IP addresses specified in the list are used in order, one after another, during e-mail verification.  If one fails then the next is used.

To add additional DNS servers, select the option Let me specify one or more DNS servers to use.  Click Add, Remove or Edit to change the list of DNS Server IP addresses.  Select an IP address and click Move Up or Move Down to change the order of DNS Server IP addresses.  You may also click Detect to detect the DNS Server settings used by Windows.

SMTP

The options available in the SMTP tab affect the speed and accuracy of verification.

HELO and Mail From

HELO and Mail From are used by Smart Email Verifier to identify itself to the mail server.  Some Mail Servers may reverse verify these values for valid DNS or existence.  It is therefore recommended that these values are correctly filled in for accurate results.

It is recommended to enter a valid IP address for HELO and a valid e-mail address for Mail From.  By default, HELO is filled in with your PC's IP address.  You may change it if you wish.

SMTP Port

If e-mail addresses belonging to a certain domain use a different port than the default 25, you can specify the port here.

Timeout

The Server Response Timeout is the amount of time for which Smart Email Verifier waits for the e-mail server to respond before reporting a Connection Timed Out error.

Proxy

A proxy server is a system that transfers messages between a computer and the Internet.  All information sent to or from the Internet must pass through the proxy server before reaching your computer.  Use the Proxy tab to specify settings if you connect to the Internet using a proxy.
