Security Monitor Pro: Adding a Monitoring Device

Adding a Monitoring Device

Before starting your monitoring session, you need to make sure that all the devices are connected and installed properly on your PC.  It is always a good idea to use the newest device drivers, to get the best out of your cameras and audio capture devices.

The first thing you need to do is add monitoring devices to Security Monitor Pro.  The Add Camera Wizard helps you add USB web cams, IP cameras and other devices.  It can be opened by clicking on Add Camera Wizard from the File menu.

If you choose to add a camera attached to your PC, the Video device and Audio device dropdown list all available devices.  You can choose both a video and an audio device or one of them.  Audio devices cannot be combined with IP (network) cameras.  If an audio device is selected, you may check Enable audio for preview window, which will cause Security Monitor Pro to play audio from this device over the PC speakers while previewing that camera/audio device pair.

If you select a network (IP) camera, you have Test, Add, Edit and Remove options.  The wizard shows the name of camera that you have successfully added.

After adding a device, you are asked whether you want to Show Preview, Add another camera or Configure Alerts.

You must run the wizard once for each USB or other attached camera you wish to add.  You can add any number of IP cameras from the Add IP Camera screen of the Wizard.  After devices have been added, you can select any of them and begin the process of configuring it.

You can also add a monitoring device from the Tools menu, by selecting Application Settings, then Camera Manager.
