Importing and Exporting Translation Memory

Site Translator includes a Translation Memory Import/Export Wizard.  This wizard lets you export the Translation Memory content to a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file.  After exporting, you can use Notepad or Microsoft Excel to edit the translation tables.  The edited content can be imported back into Site Translator.  This lets you improve translation accuracy by editing the Translation Memory and using a corrected and improved version for future translations.

To export Translation Memory:

1. Click on the Options menu and select Import and Export Translation Memory.
2. Click Next on the welcome screen of the wizard.
3. Under What do you want to do? select the Export Translation Memory option. Click Next.
4. The Available language pairs will be listed.  These are the different language pairs you have previously translated between.  Check the pairs you want to export for editing.  Use the Select All or Deselect All buttons to include or exclude all the pairs.  The number of pairs selected is shown.  Click Next.
5. Select the Destination Folder where a CSV file will be created for each language pair you have selected.
6. Site Translator automatically generates names for each CSV file and displays them under Status.
7. If the destination folder already contains a file with the same name then you can choose to Overwrite existing file.  If there is an existing French-English translation file, the new French-English file will overwrite it.  If you choose to Create a new CSV file with different name, then a file a new file name would be generated by adding a number to the file name.  You can see the name in the Status box.  Click Next to begin the export.
8. You will be shown the Destination File and the Language Pair.  After the process is 100% complete, click Next.
9. You will be told that the Import/Export has been successfully performed.  Click Finish to exit the wizard.

After you have edited the CSV files using Excel or Notepad, to import them back to Site Translator:

1. On the Site Translation or URL Translation interface, click on the Options menu and select Import and Export Translation Memory.
2. Click Next on the welcome screen of the wizard.
3. Under What do you want to do? select the Import updated language phrases option.  Click Next.
4. Under Import from file, click the Browse button and select the files you want to import.  Click Next to start the process of importing CSV files.
5. The Source file and Language Pair will be shown.  After the process is 100% complete, click Next.  All the phrases that you have edited will be imported and added to the Translation Memory.
6. You will be told that the Import/Export has been successfully performed.  Click Finish to exit the wizard.
