Digital Media Converter: Changing Conversion Settings

Changing Conversion Settings

By default, all files are converted to Windows Media Video format and saved to the My Documents folder of your PC. These defaults can be changed from the Settings window.

Changing Destination Folder

To change the path where the converted files will be saved:

  1. On the Tools menu, select Settings.
  2. Under General Settings, specify where you want to save the converted files. Either type the path or click on the Browse button under Destination folder for converted files.
  3. Click OK.

Changing Temporary Folder

To change the path where the temporary files will be saved:

  1. On the Tools menu, select Settings.
  2. Under General Settings, specify the path where you want the temporary files to be saved. Either enter the path or click on the Browse button under Working temporary folder.
  3. Click OK

Changing Convert To Format

To change the Convert To format:

  1. On the Tools menu, select Settings.
  2. Under General Settings, select a format from the Convert To Format box.
  3. Click the Properties tab or the Properties button to change the settings of the selected format.
  4. Click OK when done.

Configure Automatic Shutdown after batch conversion

For Digital Media Converter to shut down your PC after conversion is complete:

  1. On the Tools menu, select Settings.
  2. Under General Settings, check the Shutdown the computer after conversion option.
  3. Click OK.

Disabling Hardware Acceleration

Disabling hardware acceleration results in much smoother conversion since fewer system resources are used when hardware acceleration is disabled. Disabling hardware acceleration is often required when converting DVR-MS or MPEG-2 files. Disabling the acceleration using this method causes a black screen to appear before and after conversion. Alternatively, you can disable hardware display acceleration system-wide using the Windows Control Panel 'Display' applet. This avoids blanking the screen before and after conversion. However some applications need display acceleration enabled to run properly (e.g video games).

  2. Under the General Settings tab check the option Disable Hardware Acceleration during conversion.
  3. Click OK.

Restoring Defaults

To restore Digital Media Converter default settings:

  1. Click 'Restore Defaults' under General Settings.

Digital Media Converter will return to the default settings for options and settings displayed on the General Settings page. For example, if you had selected a new 'Working Temporary Folder' and changed the 'Convert to Format', and later decided that you wanted to change these setting back to the default, along with other options displayed on the General Settings page, you can click this button to return to the default settings.

Compatibility

You can fix most problems with incompatible filters using the Compatibility settings in Digital Media Converter.
