Digital Media Converter: Extracting Audio Files

Extracting Audio Files

This section discusses the way to save the audio portion of a media file.  For instance, you may wish to save only the sound track of a video file.

To save only the audio, simply add the file to the conversion list.  After the file is added to the list, the Add File Summary dialog will be displayed.  Click on Convert >> Output Format Settings >> Audio Format or click on Select Format icon from the toolbar.  Select an audio file format from the drop-down menu.

After selecting the format, click on Tools >> Split File.  Move the slider to the start of the song and click on Set Start of Clip to set the start position.  Now, you need to move the slider to the end of the song and click on Set End of Clip to set the stop position. To add this selected range as a new entry in the list, click on the Add button.

Click on the  Select Format icon >> Output Format Settings >> Audio Format.

From the drop-down menu, you can  select WAV, MP3, OGG, AMR, M4A etc.  The format selected will depend on how you plan to use the file.  For instance, if your portable audio player only plays MP3 files, then you will want to select the MP3 format.  To configure the settings for the selected format, click on Configure.  After the configuration and conversion settings, click on Start Conversion to begin the conversion process.
