My Screen Recorder: Making a Screen Recording of a Custom Region of your PC Screen

Making a Screen Recording of a Custom Region of your PC Screen

When you want to record a particular window of your PC, then use the Custom Region settings.  All the icons, windows, files etc. within the Custom Region will be recorded.  You can choose a particular window that you want to record with the Crosshair selector (As shown in Figure 1).

To make a screen recording of a custom region of the PC Screen:

  1. On the File menu, click Record to open the Recording Options dialog. You can also use the keyboard shortcut to start recording. By default, this key is F8.
  2. Select Custom Region from the Recording Region and Click OK to start the recording.

Before the recording starts, the mouse pointer changes to a Crosshair. You will need to select a window or region to record. The easiest way to select a region is to move the mouse pointer over any window on the Desktop and click once; My Screen Recorder will select that particular window.

You can even define your own custom region by clicking and dragging the mouse to draw a rectangle around any area of the screen and record that area. At the center, you will see the dimensions of the current rectangle in pixels.

Custom Region Selection
Figure 1. The Site Translator window is automatically selected because the Crosshair is within its boundaries.

When you release the mouse, a small window appears showing your selection and options. (See Figure 2.) When you select Lock Region to application, you can resize the selected window according to the dimensions you select in the Options. An easy way is to pull or drag the borders with the mouse pointer to resize the selected window. You can also shift the selected window to any location on your desktop by moving or dragging it with the mouse pointer. My Screen Recorder will only record the selected window on your desktop even if other windows are open at the same time.

Click Options if you would like to record a window of a fixed size, either 800 x 600 or 1024 X 768 pixels. Using standard sizes allows you to combine several recordings into a single movie file. Press Clear to return to the Crosshair and select a different region. Click Record to start recording.

You can work on your computer while all the desktop activities are recorded in the background.
