Recording Video/Audio
Security Monitor Pro records video and audio in Windows Media Formats. Video files are recorded as WMV (Windows Media Video) and audio files as WMA (Windows Media Audio). The Video/Audio Recording Alert records video and/or audio for a specified duration when Motion/Noise is detected or a specified time interval is reached depending upon the selected Alert category. Every device has its own alert configuration and must be configured individually.
- Select a device by clicking on its preview window. Click the Camera Monitoring Options button for the selected device.
- Under Select Alerts check the Video/Audio Recording option.
- Click Configure to open up the settings window.
- Configure recording using the instructions below.
- Click OK.
After this alert is selected and configured, you can start monitoring. Security Monitor Pro will record video or audio when an Alert is triggered by motion or noise detection.
Configuring the Alert
Output Folder
Location of the recording folder
Select the folder to which you want to save all video recordings. During motion or noise detection, this Alert will create a new file for every recording it does in this folder. You may wish to create a separate folder for each device in order to make it easier to locate recordings.
File Name Options
Prefix
The Video/Audio Recording alert generates file names with the prefix specified here. You can then choose to append a date and time or a sequential number to this prefix. You may wish to assign a meaningful prefix (for instance, "storeroom" or "frontdoor") so that it's easy to identify which files come from which camera.
Append date and time to file name
When you select this option, the Video/Audio Recording alert will append the date and time when it generated the file to the Prefix specified above. This can make the recordings more useful as evidence.
Append sequential numbers to file names
If you select this option, the filenames will consist of the Prefix as defined above, with a number added to the end.
Overwrite existing file
When you select this option the recording file is generated with the same name as specified in the Prefix. If the file by the same name is already present in the Record Folder then the new file will overwrite the old file.
Record Settings
Save recordings as segments
Whether the recording is alert triggered or it is manual, the complete recording will be saved as segments of the specified duration. If the total recording duration is 6 minutes and you have specified a segment size of 2 minutes in this option, the complete recording will consist of 3 segments (files). One advantage of this system is that you can view the previous segment even before the final one is recorded. Another is that earlier segments can be uploaded while the later ones are still be being recorded.
Select bit rate for recording
You can choose the bit rate as 45 kbps, 123 kbps or 248 kbps. The quality of recording will depend on the bit rate you select. Higher bit rates result in better quality recordings that are much clearer and sharper. But the file size of the recording is large. Smaller bit rates result in reduced file size but the quality is also much less.
