Adding a USB Camera

USB cameras are directly connected to the computer using a USB connection.

Before starting to work with your USB Cameras, you need to make sure that all the cameras are connected and installed properly on your PC.  It is always a good idea to use the newest device drivers, to get the best performance and image out of your cameras.

To view a USB Camera with Security Monitor Pro, you must first add the camera and specify its settings.

To add a USB Camera, click Camera >> Add New Camera and select USB Camera option.

In the USB Camera Settings, select the USB Video device from the drop-down list.  You have the option to choose the frame rate according to your CPU capacity.  If you want, you can name the camera in the Camera Display Name option.  By default, the Video device name will be displayed as the name of the camera.

If your USB camera is not listed in the drop-down list, click Refresh to update the list.  If the camera is still not listed, make sure that it is plugged in and installed properly.

To check if the selected camera is previewing and its ready to be added, use Test Camera.  Using this option you can also make sure that the selected camera is showing the desired view.

Note: When you attach multiple USB cameras to the same USB hub, you may not be able to preview both USB cameras simultaneously.  When the first USB camera starts previewing video, it reserves as much bandwidth as possible which is no longer available to other USB Cameras.  To work around this issue, connect your other USB camera to a different USB hub or USB port.

To change camera properties like brightness, contrast, flicker, backlight compensation and many other properties, click Camera Properties.

Security Monitor Pro allows you to change the USB camera's Video Properties such as video dimension, frame rate and image compression.  These video properties are driver dependent.

Use the Rotate Camera Preview option to adjust your camera preview by rotating it through a specified angle.  The previewed video, and all recorded videos and photos, will be rotated by specified angle.  You can rotate your camera preview by 1° to 360°.
