Sending E-Mail Notification
The E-mail Notification alert is an effective way to monitor remotely. Whenever an alert is triggered on Motion or Noise detection, Security Monitor Pro immediately sends out an email to you. You can also choose to receive a snap of the activity that triggered the alert, as an attachment. Every device has its own Alert settings and must be configured individually.
- Select a device by clicking on its preview window. Click the Camera Monitoring Options button for the selected device.
- On the Monitoring tab, make sure that When motion or noise is detected option is selected.
- Under Select Alerts check the Email / SMS Notification option.
- Click Configure to open up the settings window.
- If you also want to include a snap with the e-mail, check the Include JPEG Snaps with email option.
- Click OK.
After this alert is selected and configured, you can start monitoring. When motion or noise is detected, Security Monitor Pro will send an e-mail notification.
NOTE: To send e-mails you must have an Internet connection. If your computer is connected to the Internet via a proxy, you must configure the proxy settings in Security Monitor Pro. For more details, refer to Configuring the Proxy Server.
Configuring the Alert
On the Message tab, specify valid e-mail addresses in ‘From’ and ‘To’ fields.
Note: More than one e-mail address can be listed for To. Listing multiple addresses lets you notify more than one person, or send the notification to both an e-mail box and a mobile phone.
Enter the Subject and the Message of the e-mail. Every message will automatically include date and time. To attach a JPEG image of the last snap taken, check the option Include JPEG snaps with email. Click OK when done.
Using E-mail Notification Alert to Send SMS
The E-mail Notification can also send SMS to your mobile phones. Most service providers have an Internet domain for their customers. To configure SMS, under the Message tab, specify the mobile number with its domain in the 'To' field (Format: <your number>@<domain>.com). Type in a short message and click OK. SMS is a good way of receiving instant notifications when motion or noise is detected.
Sending E-mail Directly
Security Monitor Pro can send e-mail without configure an Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server. To do so, select the Send E-mail directly to the mail-box of the recipient option under the Settings tab.
When you use this option, Security Monitor Pro acts as its own outgoing mail server, and connects directly to the mail server for the account receiving the message, based on its domain. Some mail servers, notably AOL's but including thousands of others, will find the IP address of the sender and match it to the domain of the "From" e-mail address. If they do not match, these servers reject mail. If your PC isn't listed as a valid mail server for the domain used in the "From" e-mail address, this option will not work. To enable this for your computer, you must contact your ISP. Many ISPs also block direct connection from their customers to any mail server except their own.
In addition, this option is not available when you try to send e-mails to multiple e-mail addresses. In both these cases, you must configure an outgoing mail server.
To resolve the IP address of the SMTP server, Security Monitor Pro uses the DNS servers configured for your machine. For more details, refer to Configuring the DNS Server.
Sending E-mail using an outgoing mail server
All ISPs should provide configuration instructions for sending and receiving e-mail using an e-mail client like Microsoft Outlook. The instructions will also contain the address of the outgoing (SMTP) mail server.
To send e-mails using an outgoing mail server, select the Send e-mail using an Outgoing mail server option. In the Outgoing Mail Server Port box, specify the name or address of the outgoing mail server. Most outgoing mail servers use Port 25 for communication. If your ISP's outgoing mail server uses a different port then specify it in the Outgoing Mail Server Port box.
If the outgoing mail server requires to you to log in before sending e-mails then check the My Outgoing Mail Server requires login option. Specify login information in the Account Name and Password boxes.
Testing E-mail Settings
To test the email alert, you can use the 'Send Test E-mail' option after specifying valid email addresses in the 'From' and 'To' fields under the Message tab. To view the log generated when sending a test e-mail, click View E-mail Log. You can use the e-mail log to diagnose e-mail related problems.
