Auto FTP Manager 5.24

Automated Transfer Profiles

You can create this type of profile to automatically transfer files between a local folder and an FTP server, between two local folders, or between two FTP Servers.  First you need to specify the source and destination details like the folder location or the FTP connection information.

To create an Automated Transfer Profile, click File >> New Connection Profile >> Automated Transfer Profile.  If your transfer type is from PC folder to FTP server, first specify the folder location with the Browse button.

When specifying a folder for transfer, you can choose to exclude subfolders if you do not want them in the transfer with the Configure button.  Select the folders and files that you want to exclude.

Note: By default all the files and folders are selected for inclusion.

Once you have finished excluding the files from transfer, proceed to the next screen to specify the FTP connection details.

There are some transfer rules that you have to include for the automation process.  These rules define what files and folders have to be transferred including what action should be performed on these transferred files.  For example, you can specify a rule to transfer files from your PC to FTP server and delete those files from the PC as soon as transfer is completed.  Click and know in detail about all the Action Rules

Filters allow to include files for transfer based on name, modification date, file size, and file type.  In addition, you can schedule your automated transfers on daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Save your Automated Transfer Profile

Name your automated transfer profile before you save it.  There are additional operations that you can choose to perform immediately after saving the profile.  You can open the transfer profile using File Manager so that you can transfer your files manually by dragging and dropping them.  The transfer rules that you have specified can be run immediately at the current time.  You do not have to go the profile list and then run these rules.  Another option is to run the transfer rules at a scheduled time.  You can set time and date for the schedule immediately with the option Run the Automated Transfer Rules for this profile at a scheduled time.

Create a new profile right after the current one with the option Create another profile.

Note: Another way of creating an Automated Transfer Profile is to record your actions while using the Quick Connect File Manager.  As soon as your profile is created successfully, it is displayed in the Automated Transfer category in the Profile List.

Start Automated Transfer

Once the profile is created, you can name it and choose Start Automated transfer for this Profile.  For an existing profile in the Automated Transfer list, right click the profile and select Start Automated Transfer.

A list of files appears along with its location, destination path, file compare summary, action specified, status, and time taken for transfer.  The file compare summary displays whether the file is present on PC, FTP server, or both.  The action that you specify in Action Rules may include Transfer, Move file to other location after transfer, or Delete the file after transfer.  To start the transfer click Continue File Transfer button present at the bottom of the window.  As the files are transferred, the status of the transfer and the time taken for transfer is displayed in the list.  You can also add a Schedule to the automated profile, that is currently open.  To automatically start the file transfer task at a desired time, click Schedule.

Automated Transfer can also be started using the Command Line Interface

Automated Transfer Log

After the file transfer is complete, Automated Transfer Log gives a summary of what actions were performed.  Simply click the View Log button and the log appears in your default browser.  Automated Transfer Log includes following details:

  • A log begins with an Overview which gives information like the name of the profile, the start and end time of the Automated Transfer.

  • The number of files transferred successfully and the number of conflicts resolved are included in the Run Totals.
