Video Caster: Converting to Windows Media 9

Converting to Windows Media 9

To convert from any supported file format to Windows Media 9:

  1. On the main application screen, click the Convert Your Media Files to Windows Media Streaming Format and Publish option.
  2. The Search Media Files wizard opens.

    Step I: Search Media Files

The Search Media Files page has the Select File Extensions to search box contains a list of all input file formats supported by Video Caster.  All formats are checked by default.  You can uncheck the ones you do not want to convert.  Click the Browse button to specify the folder in which you want to search the file extensions for conversion.  The Include Subfolders option is checked by default.  This means that all folders within the folder you have specified will also be searched for file extensions you have selected.  Click Next.

Step II: Files to Add for Conversion

The Searching dialog opens and shows the path of subfolders and files been scanned and the number of files found.  When the entire folder is searched, the Files to add for Conversion page displays a list of files to be included for conversion under the File Found: list which displays details like File Name, Source Path and Media Type.  You can select a file you want to remove by clicking the name of the file in the list and then clicking the Remove button.  To remove more than one file, press the Ctrl key and click on the name of the files to select them.  Click Next to Add Files.  If files cannot be added, Video Caster will give a message telling you what the problem is and what needs to be done to solve it.  The Conversion Wizard opens after all files are added.

  3. The Conversion Wizard opens.

    Step I: Select Media Files

The Select Media Files page displays the files found by the Search Media Files wizard.  The Files to Convert box shows their File Name and Path.  Click the Add button to browse for and add more files for conversion or select one or more files form the list and click Remove if you do not want to convert them.  Select the Destination Folder by clicking on the Browse button.  This is where the converted files will be saved.  Click Next.

    Step II: WMV File Properties

Choose a category from the Profile Categories dropdown.  The available Video Profiles and Audio Profiles for the category will be listed.  For every combination of video and audio profiles selected, the list of available streams will be displayed.  You can choose one or all streams available.  Click Next.

    Step III: File Conversion

The conversion process begins.  The File Conversion page shows the Overall Progress which is nothing but the percentage of the total conversion process completed.  Another box shows the Name and Status of every file for conversion.  When a file is being converted, the status is shown as a percentage and the word Completed appears when the file is fully converted.  You can click the Cancel button anytime you want to stop the conversion process.  As soon as the conversion process is complete, the Conversion Summary dialog appears.  It shows Conversion Statistics and the path of the Destination Folder.  Click on Open Destination Folder if you want to see the files present in it.  Click Ok to close the dialog.

  4.  The Publishing Wizard opens.  Use this wizard to publish the converted files to a FTP server.
